[R.S. 1:13(B) and 24:177(E)] HB 349 Original 2020 Regular Session Beaullieu Abstract: Requires the state Dept. of Education annually to compile and distribute data relative to college and career opportunities. Proposed law: (1)Requires the state Dept. of Education (DOE) to collect and compile the following information relative to college and career opportunities on an annual basis: (a)By type of institution, average cost of attendance, graduation rate, monthly student loan payment, and three-year student loan default rate. (b)The following information relative to program completion and entry into the workforce or the military: (i)Completion rates for apprenticeship programs, high school credential programs, career and technical education programs, and first-term military enlistments. (ii)20 most in-demand occupations in the state, including starting salary and common degree levels associated with entering the occupation. (iii)Percentage of college graduates working in an occupation that does not require a college degree. (iv)Average starting salary for graduates by type of institution. (v)Average starting salary of career-technical education completers. (2)Requires DOE to: (a)Distribute information annually to public and approved nonpublic high schools by Oct. 1 for distribution to sophomores, juniors, and seniors not later than Oct. 15. (b)Publish information on its website. (3)Authorizes DOE to enter into a memorandum of understanding with any state agency, board, or commission for the purposes of implementing proposed law.
