Existing law provides certain conditions for the Civil District Court for the parish of Orleans
and its clerk of court to impose the following additional costs of court and service charges
until the bonded indebtedness or lease obligation is paid.
Existing law creates the Civil District Court for the parish of Orleans Judicial District Court
Building Commission for purposes of the construction and funding of the courthouse and
provides for membership of the commission.
Existing law provides that if neither public bids have been let for construction nor a lease
agreement executed for a privately constructed facility for use as a courthouse by prior law
deadline of Aug. 15, 2021, then the authority to levy the additional costs and charges shall
terminate and be null and void.
New law extends the deadline from Aug. 15, 2021, to Aug. 15, 2031, to let public bids for
construction or execute a lease agreement to retain authority to levy additional costs and
charges.
Effective Aug. 1, 2020.
