R.S. 14:95.8(A) and (C)(6) and (7) are hereby amended and reenacted to 8read as follows: 9 ยง95.8. Illegal possession of a handgun firearm by a juvenile 10 A. It is unlawful for any person who has not attained the age of eighteen 11 years knowingly to possess any handgun on his person firearm. Any person 12 possessing any handgun firearm in violation of this Section commits the offense of 13 illegal possession of a handgun firearm by a juvenile. 14 * * * 15 C. The provisions of this Section shall not apply to any person under the age 16 of eighteen years who is: 17 * * * 18 (6) At such person's residence and who, with the permission of such person's 19 parent or legal guardian, possesses a handgun firearm. Present law prohibits any juvenile who has not attained the age of 18 years from knowingly possessing any handgun on his person except under certain circumstances including but not limited to the following: (1)A juvenile who possesses a handgun at the juvenile's residence with the permission of the juvenile's parent or legal guardian. (2)The juvenile possesses a handgun with the written permission of the juvenile's parent or legal guardian if the juvenile carries on his person a copy of such written permission. Proposed law expands the application of present law to prohibit the possession of all firearms by a juvenile who has not attained the age of 18 years, and expands the application of the present law exceptions to the possession of any firearm under the circumstances specified in present law.
