HOUSE BILL NO. 476
BY REPRESENTATIVE HUVAL
BOARDS/COMMISSIONS:  Provides relative to the Louisiana Folklife Commission and
the Louisiana Tourism Development Commission
1	AN ACT
2To amend and reenact R.S. 25:822(A)(11) and R.S. 51:1256(B)(introductory paragraph),
3 (2)(g), and (3)(b) and to repeal R.S. 51:1256(B)(2)(i), relative to boards and
4 commissions; to provide relative to the Louisiana Folklife Commission; to provide
5 relative to the Louisiana Tourism Development Commission; to provide relative to
6 the membership of the commissions; to provide for technical changes; and to provide
7 for related matters.
8Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
9 Section 1.  R.S. 25:822(A)(11) is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows:
10 §822.  Louisiana Folklife Commission; creation; membership; confirmation and
11	reconfirmation; terms; officers; vacancies; compensations; meetings;
12	quorum; domicile
13	A.  Creation; membership.  The Louisiana Folklife Commission is hereby
14 created within the office of cultural development of the Department of Culture,
15 Recreation and Tourism.  The commission shall be composed of twenty-one voting
16 members, eighteen of whom shall be appointed by the governor and three of whom
17 shall be ex officio members.  Each appointment by the governor shall be submitted
18 to the Senate for confirmation.  The commission shall be composed as follows:

1	(11)  One member shall be the executive director of the Louisiana Committee
2 Endowment for the Humanities or his designee.

4 Section 2.  R.S. 51:1256(B)(introductory paragraph), (2)(g) and (3)(b) are hereby
5amended and reenacted to read as follows:
6 §1256.  Creation of the Louisiana Tourism Development Commission; domicile;
7	composition; membership; confirmation; terms; vacancy

9	B.  The commission shall be composed of twenty-one twenty members.

11	(2)  The following organizations shall each submit a list of four names to the
12 lieutenant governor, from which the lieutenant governor shall appoint one individual
13 from each organization for membership on the commission:

15	(g)  The Louisiana Travel Promotion Association.

17	(3)  The following organizations shall each submit a list of eight names to the
18 lieutenant governor, from which the lieutenant governor shall appoint two
19 individuals from each organization for membership on the commission:

23 Section 3.  R.S. 51:1256(B)(2)(i) is hereby repealed in its entirety.

Abstract:  Provides relative to the membership of the La. Folklife Commission and the La.
Tourism Development Commission.
Present law provides for the creation of the La. Folklife Commission within the office of
cultural development of the Dept. of Culture, Recreation, and Tourism.  Further provides
that the commission shall be composed of 21 voting members, 18 of whom are appointed
by the governor and three of whom are ex officio members.  Also provides that each
appointment by the governor is submitted to the Senate for confirmation.  Proposed law
provides for technical changes to the titles of certain member organizations.  Otherwise
retains present law.
Present law provides for the creation of the La. Tourism Development Commission as an
agency of the state in the Dept. of Culture, Recreation and Tourism.  Further provides that
the commission shall be a body politic and corporate entity, and shall be domiciled in Baton
Rouge.
Present law provides that the commission shall be composed of 21 members, including one
member appointed by the La. Business League.  Proposed law removes the member from
the La. Business League from the commission.  Further provides for technical changes to the
titles of certain nominating organizations.  Otherwise retains present law.
