RÉSUMÉ DIGEST ACT 86 (HB 476) 2020 Regular Session Huval Existing law provides for the creation of the La. Folklife Commission within the office of cultural development of the Dept. of Culture, Recreation and Tourism (department). Further provides that the commission shall be composed of 21 voting members, 18 of whom are appointed by the governor and three of whom are ex officio members. Also provides that each appointment by the governor is submitted to the Senate for confirmation. New law provides for technical changes to the titles of certain member organizations. Existing law provides for the creation of the La. Tourism Development Commission as an agency within the department. Existing law provides that the commission is composed primarily of members appointed by the lieutenant governor and that most of those appointments are made from nominations submitted by specified organizations. Prior law provided for the appointment of one member from nominations made by the La. Business League. New law removes this appointment and reduces total commission membership to 20. New law further provides for technical changes to the titles of certain nominating organizations. Existing law (R.S. 36:207) provides that the lieutenant governor appoints the assistant secretaries for the various offices in the department, including the office of tourism, and requires the La. Tourism Development Commission to submit nominees from among eligible applicants to fill a vacancy in the assistant secretary for the office of tourism position. However, prior law required the commission to submit its nominees to the governor. New law requires that such nominees be submitted to the lieutenant governor. Effective Aug. 1, 2020.
