HB 599 Original 2020 Regular Session Amedee
Abstract: Requires daily recess of at least 30 minutes for students in grades kindergarten through
eight.
Present law requires each public school that includes any of the grades kindergarten through eight
to provide at least 30 minutes each school day of quality moderate to vigorous physical activity for
students.
Proposed law additionally requires each such school to provide at least 30 minutes of recess each
day, defined as a play environment outside of regular classroom instructional activities where
students are allowed to engage in supervised, safe, and active free play.
