Abstract:  Provides for reporting of general information by the state Dept. of Education on
complaints concerning and inspections of family child care providers and in-home providers.
Present law provides for registration of family child care providers and in-home providers with the
state Dept. of Education (department).  Defines these providers, respectively, as follows:
(1)"Family child care provider" means an individual who provides child care services for fewer
than 24 hours per day per child, as the sole caregiver, for six or fewer children, in a private
residence.
(2)"In-home provider" means an individual who provides child care services in the child or
children's own home.
Present law provides relative to complaints concerning family child care providers and in-home
providers and inspections of such providers by the department.  Proposed law retains present law and
adds thereto a requirement that on or before March 1st annually, the department submit a report to
the legislative committees on education which includes all of the following information:
(1)The number of complaints that the department received in the preceding calendar year
regarding registered family child care providers and in-home providers.
(2)The number of registered family child care providers and in-home providers that were subject
to complaints in the preceding calendar year.
(3)The number of inspections of registered family child care providers and in-home providers
that the department conducted as authorized in this Section in the preceding calendar year.
(4)Any general information concerning registered family child care providers and in-home
providers that the state superintendent of education deems necessary and appropriate.
