Abstract:  Requires the Bd. of Regents, governing authority of each public secondary school, the
Dept. of Education, and the La. Workforce Commission to share student information for
research and policy development purposes.
Present law provides for the protection of personally identifiable student information.
Proposed law provides that notwithstanding present law the Bd. of Regents, governing authority of
each public secondary school, the Dept. of Education, and the La. Workforce Commission shall
exchange student information, including full name, date of birth, and social security number, for the
express purpose of gathering data regarding rates of students obtaining industry credentials and
entering into the field for which they earned such credentials or pursuing further education related
to the industry for which they earned such credentials.  Requires that confidentiality of shared
information be maintained and provides for penalties for breaching confidentiality.
