[R.S. 1:13(B) and 24:177(E)] HB 645 Original 2020 Regular Session Jordan Abstract: Requires inmate visitation to be conducted in person unless waived by the inmate or if the warden determines that an in-person visitation would cause a substantial risk to the safety and security of the facility or the persons involved in the visitation. Present law authorizes the secretary of the Dept. of Public Safety and Corrections to authorize visits and correspondence under reasonable conditions between inmates and approved friends, relatives, and other persons. Proposed law retains present law and adds that visits authorized pursuant to present law shall be conducted in-person unless the inmate agrees to visitation in another form or if the warden of the facility determines that an in-person visitation would cause a substantial risk to the safety and security of the facility or the persons involved in the visitation.
