HOUSE BILL NO. 656

CURRICULA:  Provides relative to eating disorder prevention in schools
1	AN ACT
2To enact R.S. 17:280.1, relative to school curricula; to require public schools to incorporate
3 eating disorder awareness and prevention into existing curricula; to provide for rules
4 and regulations; and to provide for related matters.
5Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
6 Section 1.  R.S. 17:280.1 is hereby enacted to read as follows:
7 ยง280.1.  Eating disorder awareness and prevention; required instruction
8	A.  Each public school governing authority shall provide age and grade
9 appropriate instruction relative to eating disorder awareness and prevention.  Such
10 instruction shall be integrated into the curriculum of an existing required course,
11 such as health education, physical education, or another required course deemed
12 appropriate by the governing authority.
13	B.  Each public school governing authority shall adopt rules and regulations
14 necessary for implementation of this Section.

Abstract:  Requires instruction relative to eating disorder awareness and prevention in
public schools.
Proposed law requires public schools to provide age and grade appropriate classroom
instruction aimed at the prevention of eating disorders, which shall be incorporated into an
existing course of study.  Requires public school governing authorities to adopt rules and
regulations for the implementation of such instruction.
