R.S. 18:1309(A)(1)(b)(ii), (2), and (4) are hereby amended and reenacted 7to read as follows: 8 ยง1309. Early voting; verification 9 A.(1) 10 * * * 11 (b) 12 * * * 13 (ii) The additional day shall be the first day preceding the period described 14 in Item (a)(i) of this Paragraph that is not a Sunday or a holiday required to be 15 observed pursuant to Paragraph (4) of this Subsection. 16 (2) During the early voting period, the registrar shall maintain regular office 17 hours, remaining open from 8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through each day, 18 including Saturday and Sunday. If the office space of the registrar is insufficient or inconvenient to 2 accommodate early voting, the registrar may provide for an alternate location to 3 conduct early voting, which location shall be in the courthouse or in a public 4 building in the immediate vicinity thereof, and in such case, adequate notice shall be 5 posted at the registrar's office informing the public of the location where early voting 6 is being conducted. 7 * * * 8 (4) A registrar shall observe the holidays which are provided by law or 9 proclaimed by the governor for state departments, except Sundays, during any period 10 for conducting early voting. 11 * * * DIGEST The digest printed below was prepared by House Legislative Services. Present law provides for early voting during an election. Provides that the early voting period for an election is the period from 14 days to seven days prior to the election. Generally provides that early voting is held at the registrar of voters' office and requires the office to be open from 8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on each day, Monday through Saturday. Present law provides that a registrar shall observe the holidays which are provided by law or proclaimed by the governor for state departments during any early voting period. Present law provides that Sundays are legal holidays. Proposed law excepts Sundays from the legal holidays that the registrar is to observe and requires the registrar of voters' office to be open on Sunday for early voting.
