HB 705 Original	2020 Regular Session	Magee
Abstract: Increases the compensation for certified election commissioners to $150.
Present law provides for election commissioners who are responsible for conducting elections at
each polling place, enforcing the election laws, maintaining order at the polling place, and printing
results from the voting machines.
Present law requires the clerk of court to conduct, at least annually, a general course of instruction
for commissioners. Requires the clerk to issue a certificate to each person who attends the course
of instruction and achieves a satisfactory score on the test for that course.
Present law provides that a commissioner who has received such certification shall be paid $100 on
election day. Provides for payment of this same amount to a commissioner who assists the registrar
in the conduct of early voting.
Proposed law increases the compensation of such commissioners to $150.
Present law requires the clerk of court to conduct a course of instruction for
commissioners-in-charge, commissioners, and alternate commissioners who are selected to serve in
each election. Provides that a commissioner who is certified as having received this additional
instruction shall be paid $200 on election day. Further provides that a commissioner-in-charge shall
receive $250, a commissioner-in-charge who serves at more than one precinct shall receive $300,
and an uncertified commissioner shall receive $35.
Proposed law retains present law.
