RÉSUMÉ DIGEST ACT 54 (HB 765) 2020 Regular Session Fontenot New law requires that the Dept. of Public Safety and Corrections, office of motor vehicles, issue a special prestige license plate to be known as the "Louisiana State University National Champions 2019" license plate, provided there is a minimum of 1,000 applicants for such plate. New law specifies that the plate is restricted to use on passenger cars, pickup trucks, recreational vehicles, motorcycles, and vans. New law requires that the secretary work in conjunction with La. State University Bd. of Supervisors to select the color and design of the plate and requires that the year "2019" be displayed on the plate. New law specifies that the plate will be issued, upon application, to any citizen of the state in the same manner as any other motor vehicle license plate. New law requires that the department collect an annual royalty fee of $25 in addition to the standard motor vehicle license tax imposed by existing law and a handling fee of $3.50 for each plate to be retained by the department to offset a portion of administrative costs. New law requires that the annual royalty fee be collected by the department and forwarded to La. State University to be used for LSU Foundation awards. New law requires that the secretary promulgate and adopt rules and regulations as are necessary to implement the provisions of new law. Directs the Dept. of Public Safety and Corrections, office of motor vehicles, to create the special prestige license plate when the applicable statutory provisions are met and its system is updated to accommodate the creation of new plates. Effective Aug. 1, 2020. (Adds R.S. 47:463.209)
