HB 782 Original 2020 Regular Session Bagley
Abstract: Allows retired certified teachers who are members of the Teachers' Retirement System
of La. (TRSL) to return to work that is compensated on a per-day basis without a suspension
of benefits.
Present law provides for the reemployment eligibility of retired members of TRSL. Generally
requires the suspension of retirement benefits of a retired teacher who returns to work as a teacher.
Provides relative to reemployment in other positions and under certain shortage conditions.
Proposed law provides that a retired certified teacher who is reemployed as a certified teacher and
who is compensated on a per-day basis shall not have his retirement benefit suspended or reduced.
Provides that the retiree and his employer shall not make contributions to the system during such
time, and he shall receive no additional service credit and shall not accrue any additional retirement
benefits.
