CONDOLENCES:  Expresses condolences on the death of state representative Reggie Paul
Bagala
1	A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
2To express the sincere and heartfelt condolences of the members of the Legislature of
3 Louisiana upon the death of Reggie Paul Bagala and their enduring gratitude for his
4 outstanding contributions to Jefferson Parish and Lafourche Parish and the state of
5 Louisiana, particularly during his tenure as a distinguished member of the Louisiana
6 House of Representatives.
7 WHEREAS, it is with deep regret and profound sorrow that the members of the
8Legislature of Louisiana have learned of the death of their friend and colleague, state
9representative Reggie Paul Bagala, on Thursday, April 9, 2020, after a hard-fought battle
10with COVID-19; and
11 WHEREAS, a native of Cut Off and resident of Lockport, Representative Bagala
12graduated from South Lafourche High School in 1983 and from Louisiana State University

1with a bachelor's degree in political science in 1988; after graduating from LSU, he attended
2the American Campaign Academy in Washington, D.C.; and
3 WHEREAS, prior to entering state politics, Representative Bagala was a successful
4businessman in the Bayou Lafourche area; in 2014, he rekindled his passion for politics by
5serving Lafourche Parish, first as director of community services, then as parish
6administrator, and finally as an auditor; and
7 WHEREAS, on January 13, 2020, Mr. Bagala was sworn in as the state
8representative for District No. 54, and he fully used every opportunity to serve the citizens
9of District No. 54 and Louisiana in an honorable and dedicated manner, serving as a member
10of the House Committee on House and Governmental Affairs, the House Committee on
11Judiciary, and the House Committee on Transportation, Highways and Public Works; and
12 WHEREAS, in addition to his committee service in the legislature, Mr. Bagala was
13an active member of the Acadiana Delegation, the Jefferson Parish Legislative Delegation,
14and the Louisiana Republican Legislative Delegation; and
15 WHEREAS, Representative Bagala is survived by his wife, Marissa Bagala; his son,
16Tristan Paul Bagala; and his mother, June Layus Bagala; and
17 WHEREAS, Representative Bagala was the kind of citizen who represents what is
18good about Louisiana, a man of wisdom who used his talents and integrity to change his
19community and state for the better; and
20 WHEREAS, the death of Representative Bagala has left a tremendous void in his
21community and has created a genuine sense of sorrow in the many citizens whose lives he
22touched, including the entire legislative family who mourns the loss of this special
23gentleman; and
24 WHEREAS, Representative Bagala was a truly kind individual and a loving father,
25brother, and husband; he will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
26 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
27express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the death of state representative Reggie Paul
28Bagala; does hereby extend posthumous honor and recognition to Mr. Bagala for his
29outstanding accomplishments, particularly during his brief but productive service as a
30member of the Louisiana House of Representatives, which was marked by his

1uncompromising endeavor to improve the welfare of his constituents in Jefferson Parish and
2Lafourche Parish and the citizens of the state of Louisiana; does hereby record for posterity
3his manifold contributions; and does hereby pay tribute to him for the generous and effective
4way in which he dedicated his intelligence and his energy to the service of his family,
5friends, community, and state.
6 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
7family of Representative Reggie Paul Bagala.
