HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 1

A RESOLUTION
To commend Woody's Home for Veterans in Caddo Parish for providing shelter for United
States military veterans suffering from mental illness.
WHEREAS, since August 2003, Woody's Home for Veterans has provided a stable
home for veterans suffering with mental illness; and
WHEREAS, according to the Veteran's Administration, approximately twenty-three
percent of the United States' homeless population are military veterans, and seventy-six
percent of veterans struggle with addiction or suffer from mental health problems; and
WHEREAS, Woody's Home provides a safe haven for homeless veterans where they
can interact with one another and receive the care they need; and
WHEREAS, in sixteen years of operation, Woody's Home has provided more than
three hundred thousand meals, nearly sixty thousand nights of lodging, and more than two
hundred thirty thousand employee hours in services to veterans; Woody's Home also
provides veterans with the opportunity to receive mental health counseling and medication
management; and
WHEREAS, Woody's Home for Veterans is most deserving of recognition for its
dedication to caring for the men and women who have served in our great nation's military
and protected our freedom.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Woody's Home for Veterans for its service
and dedication to our nation's veterans.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
Woody's Home for Veterans.
