BY REPRESENTATIVE EDMONDS
CONSUMERS/PROTECTI ON:  Urges and requests Attorney General Jeff Landry to ensure
a swift, effective, and unified response to price gouging
1	A RESOLUTION
2To urge and request the attorney general for the state of Louisiana, Jeff Landry, to continue
3 his efforts fighting scams and price gouging during the COVID-19 public health
4 crisis and to urge his continued focus on these important efforts.
5 WHEREAS, the COVID-19 public health crisis has attacked the citizens of Louisiana
6as the invisible enemy, infecting our people and impacting our economy; and
7 WHEREAS, during these trying times some companies and individuals seek to take
8advantage of our citizens through the prevalence of these scams or price gouging; and
9 WHEREAS, some companies and individuals are trying to profit from the global
10pandemic by selling unproven and illegally marketed products and falsely claiming they are
11able to prevent or cure the COVID-19 public health crisis; and
12 WHEREAS, the COVID-19 public health crisis has put incredible stress on
13consumers, and we must ensure that they can afford essential goods and services; and
14 WHEREAS, price gouging violations are punishable by both civil and criminal
15monetary penalties and possible imprisonment.
16 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
17Legislature of Louisiana does hereby urge and request the attorney general for the state of
18Louisiana, Jeff Landry, to ensure a swift, effective, and unified national response to price
19gouging and urge price gouging to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
20 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the Legislature
21of Louisiana does hereby urge and request the attorney general to utilize warning letters,

1seizures, or injunctions against products on the market that are not in compliance with the
2law.
3 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the Legislature
4of Louisiana does hereby urge and request the attorney general to send letters to major
5retailers urging them to crack down on price gouging on their online platforms amidst the
6COVID-19 public health crisis.
7 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the Legislature
8of Louisiana does hereby commend the attorney general on his work protecting the citizens
9of Louisiana from scams and price gouging during the COVID-19 public health crisis and
10does hereby recognize his continued efforts on behalf of our state.
11 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
12attorney general for the state of Louisiana, Jeff Landry.
