HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 22

A RESOLUTION
To commend the Basile High School wrestling team on winning their second consecutive
state title at the 2020 Division III State Wrestling Championship.
WHEREAS, on Saturday, February 15 at the CenturyLink Center in Bossier City,
five of the six Bearcats competing in the finals captured state titles in their individual weight
classes, leading the Basile team to the overall title with two hundred forty-five points; and
WHEREAS, the Basile Bearcats outscored the entire field of twenty-three teams
competing for the Division III Louisiana state wrestling title, with Brusly finishing in second
and St. Louis Catholic in third; and
WHEREAS, the five individual state champions for Basile High School were Andre
Johnson, Alex Menier, Blake Menier, Isaac Cortez, and Gabe Duplechin, while Hunter
Langley finished as the state runner-up in his weight class; other Basile wrestlers who placed
in non-title matches included Luc Johnson, Logan David, Ethan Langley, and Ethan Bazinet;
and
WHEREAS, Coach Bryan McCoy modeled exemplary leadership throughout his
team's astounding season and remained humble despite the magnitude of his success, saying:
"God blessed us with a victory this year, and we are all grateful for that"; and
WHEREAS, Coach McCoy and the members of the Basile High School wrestling
team are back-to-back state champions whose humility in the midst of success is certainly
worthy of recognition.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the Basile High School wrestling team and
Coach Bryan McCoy on capturing the school's second consecutive state wrestling title at the

2020 Division III State Wrestling Championship and does hereby extend sincere hopes and
wishes for the continued success of Coach McCoy and his team for years to come.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
Coach Bryan McCoy of the Basile High School wrestling team.
