COMMENDATIONS: Commends Carl Jones on the occasion of his retirement after a
career of military and law enforcement service
1 A RESOLUTION
2To commend Carl Jones on the occasion of his retirement after forty-five years of service
3 in the military and law enforcement.
4 WHEREAS, Carl Jones, son of Wiley and Mary Alice Jones, was raised in
5Coushatta, Louisiana; he earned his diploma from Coushatta High School and a bachelor's
6degree in criminal justice from California Coast University; and
7 WHEREAS, from April 1975 until July 1995, Jones served in the United States
8Marine Corps; during his military service he was stationed in camps across the globe,
9including Okinawa, Japan; the Phillippines; the Persian Gulf; and Hong Kong; his capable
10leadership earned him the rank of Gunnery Sergeant during his time in the US Marine Corps;
11and
12 WHEREAS, Gunnery Sergeant Jones's combat experience includes tours during
13Operation Desert Shield, Operation Desert Storm, and Operation Southern Watch; he also
14has been the recipient of many awards, including a combat action ribbon, the Kuwait
15Liberation Medal, and numerous unit commendations and good conduct medals; and
16 WHEREAS, after being honorably discharged from the Marine Corps in 1995,
17Gunnery Sergeant Jones continued to serve his fellow Americans by becoming a patrol
18officer with the California State University, Long Beach Police Department; most recently,
19he served the California State University, Fullerton Police Department where he achieved
20the rank of Captain; and

1 WHEREAS, it is without question that Carl Jones is a genuine servant of the people,
2and his commitment to the protection of the United States of America and its people is most
3deserving of recognition.
4 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
5Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend former United States Marine Corps Gunnery
6Sergeant and Fullerton Police Department Captain Carl Jones on the occasion of his
7retirement; does hereby express the most genuine appreciation for Carl Jones's relentless
8dedication to ensuring the safety of his country and his fellow Americans; and does hereby
9extend sincere wishes for continued good health and prosperity for Carl Jones as he begins
10a new journey in retirement.
11 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Carl
12Jones.
