SPECIAL DAY/WEEK/MONTH: Recognizes May 24, 2020, as Sammy J. Franklin Day
1 A RESOLUTION
2To recognize May 24, 2020, as Sammy J. Franklin Day in Louisiana.
3 WHEREAS, this year, Sammy J. Franklin is celebrating his eightieth birthday; and
4 WHEREAS, for sixty-five years, Mr. Franklin has served in the newspaper industry;
5and
6 WHEREAS, for fifty-two years, Mr. Franklin has served as the publisher and editor
7of The Jena Times Olla-Tullos-Urania Signal, the official newspaper of LaSalle Parish, the
8towns of Jena, Olla, Tullos, and Urania, the LaSalle Parish School Board, and numerous
9other parish bodies; and
10 WHEREAS, under Mr. Franklin's leadership, The Jena Times Olla-Tullos-Urania
11Signal has earned a reputation as one of the most reliable and trustworthy newspapers in the
12state and the country; and
13 WHEREAS, the Jena Times Olla-Tullos-Urania Signal has received numerous
14awards from the Louisiana Press Association, including awards for editorial writing,
15newspaper reporting, photography, and advertising; and
16 WHEREAS, as one of LaSalle Parish's most influential citizens, Mr. Franklin
17deserves gratitude for his promotion of business and industry, which has helped the parish
18to enjoy growth and prosperity even while other parishes have experienced economic
19decline; and

1 WHEREAS, Mr. Franklin's unwavering faith in God and his dedication to
2conservative morals and Christian values are continuing sources of inspiration for persons
3concerned about the fate of contemporary American society.
4 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
5Legislature of Louisiana does hereby recognize May 24, 2020, as Sammy J. Franklin Day
6in Louisiana, and does hereby express appreciation and gratitude for Mr. Franklin's service,
7hard work, and unselfish dedication to the overall well-being of LaSalle Parish and to the
8state of Louisiana.
9 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
10Sammy J. Franklin.
