COMMENDATIONS: Commends the 2020 Independence Sicilian Heritage Festival on its
twelfth anniversary
1 A RESOLUTION
2To commend the 2020 Sicilian Heritage Festival in Independence, Louisiana, and its royal
3 court on the occasion of the festival's twelfth anniversary.
4 WHEREAS, the Sicilian Heritage Festival celebrates the beautiful and rich Sicilian
5history that is prominent in the Tangipahoa Parish town of Independence, Louisiana; and
6 WHEREAS, the festival is held annually during the second weekend in March in
7downtown Independence; and
8 WHEREAS, this year's festival honors the 2020 royal court: B.J. Guzzardo as King,
9Isabella Correnti as Queen, and Joyce Paille as Madré; and
10 WHEREAS, features of the Sicilian Heritage Festival include the Italian Heritage
11Cultural Museum, street dancing, live entertainment, a parade, a spaghetti cook-off, and a
12meatball toss competition; and
13 WHEREAS, this celebration of Sicilian heritage is admirable and worthy of
14commendation.
15 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
16Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the 2020 Sicilian Heritage Festival in
17Independence, Louisiana, on the occasion of its twelfth anniversary; does hereby recognize
18its royal court on receiving the honor of representing the Sicilian community in
19Independence; and does hereby express great pride in the town's celebration of its Sicilian
20roots.
