HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 4

A RESOLUTION
To commend the 2020 Sicilian Heritage Festival in Independence, Louisiana, and its royal
court on the occasion of the festival's twelfth anniversary.
WHEREAS, the Sicilian Heritage Festival celebrates the beautiful and rich Sicilian
history that is prominent in the Tangipahoa Parish town of Independence, Louisiana; and
WHEREAS, the festival is held annually during the second weekend in March in
downtown Independence; and
WHEREAS, this year's festival honors the 2020 royal court: B.J. Guzzardo as King,
Isabella Correnti as Queen, and Joyce Paille as Madré; and
WHEREAS, features of the Sicilian Heritage Festival include the Italian Heritage
Cultural Museum, street dancing, live entertainment, a parade, a spaghetti cook-off, and a
meatball toss competition; and
WHEREAS, this celebration of Sicilian heritage is admirable and worthy of
commendation.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the 2020 Sicilian Heritage Festival in
Independence, Louisiana, on the occasion of its twelfth anniversary; does hereby recognize
its royal court on receiving the honor of representing the Sicilian community in
Independence; and does hereby express great pride in the town's celebration of its Sicilian
roots.
