SPECIAL DAY/WEEK/MONTH: Designates the week of May 17-23, 2020, as Emergency
Medical Services Week
1 A RESOLUTION
2To designate the week of May 17 through May 23, 2020 as Emergency Medical Services
3 Week in Louisiana.
4 WHEREAS, emergency medical services are vital to the public welfare; and
5 WHEREAS, the members of emergency medical services teams are ready to provide
6lifesaving care to those in need twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week; and
7 WHEREAS, access to quality emergency care dramatically improves the survival
8and recovery rate of those who experience sudden illness or injury; and
9 WHEREAS, emergency medical services fill a gap by providing out of hospital care,
10which includes preventative medicine, follow-up care, and access to telemedicine; and
11 WHEREAS, the emergency medical services system consists of emergency medical
12responders, emergency medical technicians, advanced emergency medical technicians,
13paramedics, emergency medical dispatchers, firefighters, police officers, educators,
14administrators, out-of-hospital nurses, emergency nurses, emergency physicians, trained
15members of the public, and other out-of-hospital medical care providers; and
16 WHEREAS, the members of emergency medical care teams, whether career or
17volunteer, engage in thousands of hours of specialized training to enhance their lifesaving
18skills; and
19 WHEREAS, the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians, in
20partnership with the American College of Emergency Physicians, has designated the week
21of May 17 through May 23, 2020, as Emergency Medical Services Week in the nation; and

1 WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper to recognize the accomplishments of emergency
2medical service providers by recognizing Emergency Medical Services Week in Louisiana,
3the theme of which is "Ready Today. Preparing for Tomorrow".
4 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
5Legislature of Louisiana does hereby designate May 17-23, 2020, as Emergency Medical
6Services Week in Louisiana and does hereby encourage the citizens of Louisiana to observe
7this week with appropriate programs, ceremonies, and activities.
