HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 59

COMMENDATIONS:  Commends the Certified Louisiana logo programs for their
beneficial effects on the state's economy
1	A RESOLUTION
2To commend the Certified Louisiana logo programs for their beneficial effects on the state's
3 economy.
4 WHEREAS, the Certified Louisiana, Certified Cajun, Certified Craft Beverage,
5Certified Creole, and Certified Farm to Table logo programs were established by the
6Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry to promote products made, grown,
7manufactured, or processed in Louisiana and to enhance the state's agricultural industry; and
8 WHEREAS, these programs endeavor to promote Louisiana's agricultural
9commodities and, in so doing, help the state's companies to have an advantage over
10companies located outside of the state of Louisiana; and
11 WHEREAS, to be eligible to use the Certified Louisiana logo, a product must be
12made, grown, manufactured, processed, produced, or substantially transformed in the state
13of Louisiana; and
14 WHEREAS, the Certified Cajun logo can only be used on a product that is
15representative of the culture that is generally of Acadian descent, and at least fifty percent
16of the product must be made, grown, produced, manufactured, processed, or packed in
17Louisiana to be eligible; and
18 WHEREAS, similarly, to be eligible to use the Certified Creole logo, at least fifty
19percent of the product must be made, grown, produced, manufactured, processed, or packed
20in Louisiana, and the product shall be of Creole heritage; and

1 WHEREAS, to be eligible to use the Certified Farm to Table logo, a product must
2be grown, caught, or raised in the state of Louisiana; and
3 WHEREAS, the Certified Craft Beverage logo program applies to beer, wine, spirits,
4and craft beverages and requires that the craft beverage in question be crafted, bottled,
5brewed, vinified, or distilled in the state of Louisiana; and
6 WHEREAS, these programs make the state's consumers cognizant of the fact that
7certain foods and beverages that they enjoy were made by fellow citizens of the state of
8Louisiana; and
9 WHEREAS, by increasing consumer awareness in this fashion, such programs
10benefit the state's farmers, processors, producers, and suppliers, all of whom are assisted in
11marketing their respective products to the state's consumers; and
12 WHEREAS, these programs encourage the state's citizens to purchase products that
13are from Louisiana; their purchase, in turn, keeps dollars in the state, helps Louisiana
14workers earn a living, and lends support to local growers and businesses; and
15 WHEREAS, all in all, these programs help buyers support local homegrown
16companies while stimulating the economy.
17 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
18Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the Certified Louisiana logo programs for
19their beneficial effects on the state's economy.
20 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
21Louisiana commissioner of Agriculture and Forestry.
