ENROLLED 2020 Regular Session HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 60 BY REPRESENTATIVE DEVILLIER A RESOLUTION To express the condolences of the House of Representatives upon the death of Dr. Bobbie Deshotel. WHEREAS, Dr. Bobbie Deshotel passed away at eighty-three years old on Friday, May 22, 2020, with his family by his side; and WHEREAS, Dr. Deshotel was a member of the Vidrine High School class of 1954 and a 1960 graduate of the Louisiana State University Medical School; and WHEREAS, Dr. Deshotel began his medical practice in 1962 and maintained the practice for nearly fifty years until his retirement in 2011; and WHEREAS, Dr. Deshotel was an incredible public servant throughout his life; at the time of his passing, he was serving in his fifty-first year as a member of the Evangeline Parish School Board; he also served, for six years in the 1960s, as the mayor of Basile, was a member of the board of directors for the Basile State Bank, served as assistant coroner for Evangeline Parish, and was a founding member and president of the Louisiana Swine Festival Association; and WHEREAS, Dr. Deshotel was a parishioner of St. Augustine Catholic Church and had a special devotion to the Virgin Mary; and WHEREAS, Dr. Deshotel is survived by his loving wife of sixty-one years, Joella F. Deshotel; his children, Randall M. Deshotel, Robert L. Deshotel, and his wife Lisa, Cherie D. Frey, and her husband Shane, Derek J. Deshotel, and his wife Pegi, and Robin M. Deshotel, and his wife Jill; fourteen grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and many other family members and friends; and Page 1 of 2 HR NO. 60 ENROLLED WHEREAS, Dr. Deshotel will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby express heartfelt condolences on the death of Dr. Bobbie Deshotel; does hereby thank Dr. Deshotel for his service to the community of Basile, Evangeline Parish, and the state of Louisiana; and does hereby extend sincere hopes and wishes that his family finds comfort during this time of loss.
