CORONERS. Provides for the release of a body for disposition by a coroner. (8/1/20)
1 AN ACT
2 To amend and reenact R.S. 13:5715(A)(1), relative to coroners; to provide regarding the
3 release of a body by a coroner; and to provide for related matters.
4 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
5 Section 1. R.S. 13:5715(A)(1) is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows:
6 ยง5715. Delivery of body; disposition of paupers; anatomical gifts; kidney or eye
7 removal; limitation of liability
8 A.(1) Upon completion of an autopsy or completion of the coroner's
9 investigation, if the investigation reveals that an autopsy is not required, the coroner
10 shall release the body to the family or friends for burial disposition.

Present law requires a coroner to release a body for burial to family or friends after an
autopsy or an investigation is complete.
Proposed law retains present law but replaces burial with disposition.
