DIGEST SB 210 Original 2020 Regular Session Barrow Present law requires the secretary of the Dept. of Environmental Quality, at least every two years, to evaluate the volume and types of solid waste managed in Louisiana that includes solid waste that is reduced, generated, transported, recycled, processed, incinerated, treated, stored, or disposed. Present law requires the secretary to determine the permitted capacity based on the evaluation that is available to safely manage the solid waste and report to the oversight committees and the public. Present law requires the secretary to consider permitted capacity, along with other relevant factors, in the permitting of solid waste. Proposed law prohibits the secretary from issuing or renewing any permit, registration, variance, and license to operate any landfill that has reached capacity in a parish having a population of 439,000 or greater according to the most recent federal decennial census.
