DIGEST SB 24 Original 2020 Regular Session Peacock Present law regulates public schools and nonpublic schools that receive public funds regarding membership in, and participation in any competition sponsored by, an intrastate interscholastic extracurricular athletic association or organization. Proposed law retains present law and further prohibits any public school or nonpublic school approved by the State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education that receives funds from the state from being a member of, or participating in any competition sponsored by, any intrastate interscholastic extracurricular athletic association or organization that does not provide to every student at the student's earliest level of entry to an equal opportunity to immediately participate in any sport by age, year of attendance, or gender with no delayed eligibility requirements imposed due to type, classification, or location of the school in which the student is enrolled. Effective upon signature of the governor or lapse of time for gubernatorial action. (Adds R.S. 17:176(G))
