DIGEST SB 419 Original 2020 Regular Session Robert Mills Present law provides that every act of a person that causes damage to another obliges that person who is at fault to repair it. Present law provides that damages may include loss of consortium, service, and society, but does not include such costs as future medical treatment. Proposed law provides for a $500,000 limitation for general damages, excluding special or economic damages, in civil suits. Proposed law defines "general damages". Effective August 1, 2020.
