SENATE BILL NO. 431

ELECTED OFFICIALS. Prohibits a statewide elected official from receiving compensation
from outside employment while in office. (gov sig)
1 AN ACT
2 To enact R.S. 36:10(C), relative to compensation of statewide elected officials; to provide
3 for limitations; and to provide for related matters.
4 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
5 Section 1. R.S. 36:10(C) is hereby enacted to read as follows:
6 ยง10. Statewide elected officials; salary

8 C. The salary of each statewide elected official shall not be supplemented
9 by receipt of any thing of economic value for services rendered unrelated to the
10 performance of his official duties.

12 Section 2. The provisions of this Act shall have prospective application only.
13 Section 3. This Act shall become effective upon signature by the governor or, if not
14 signed by the governor, upon expiration of the time for bills to become law without signature
15 by the governor, as provided by Article III, Section 18 of the Constitution of Louisiana. If
16 vetoed by the governor and subsequently approved by the legislature, this Act shall become
17 effective on the day following such approval.

Present law provides that the salary of the governor will be $130,000, payable monthly upon
his own warrant and that the salary of each statewide elected official, except the governor,
will be $115,000, payable monthly upon the statewide elected official's own warrant.
Proposed law retains present law and creates a prohibition on the receipt of any thing of
economic value by statewide elected officials for services rendered unrelated to the
performance of their official duties.
Proposed law provides that proposed law will have prospective application only.
Effective upon signature of the governor or lapse of time for gubernatorial action.
