SENATE BILL NO. 474

MOTOR VEHICLES.  Creates the "Utility Lineman" special prestige license plate. (8/1/20)
1	AN ACT
2 To enact R.S. 47:463.209, relative to motor vehicle special prestige license plate; to provide
3 for the establishment of the "Utility Lineman" special prestige license plate; to
4 provide for creation, issuance, design, fees, distribution, and rule promulgation
5 applicable to such license plates; and to provide for related matters.
6 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
7 Section 1.  R.S. 47:463.209 is hereby enacted to read as follows:
8 ยง463.209. Special prestige license plate; "Utility Lineman"
9 A. The secretary of the Department of Public Safety and Corrections shall
10 establish a special prestige motor vehicle license plate to be known as the "Utility
11 Lineman" plate, provided there is a minimum of one thousand applicants for the plate.
12 The plate shall be restricted to use on passenger cars, pickup trucks, recreational
13 vehicles, motorcycles, and vans.
14 B. The secretary shall work in conjunction with the Utility Lineman Association
15 or any association affiliated with Utility Lineman to select the color and design of the
16 plate, provided it is in compliance with R.S. 47:463(A)(3). The design shall include the
17 words "Utility Lineman".

1 C. The special prestige license plate shall be issued, upon application, to any
2 citizen of Louisiana in the same manner as any other motor vehicle license plate.
3 D. The charge for the special plate shall be the regular motor vehicle license fee
4 charged under the provisions of R.S. 47:463. The department shall collect a handling
5 fee of three dollars and fifty cents for each plate to be retained by the department to
6 offset a portion of administrative costs.
7 E. The secretary shall promulgate and adopt rules and regulations as are
8 necessary to implement the provisions of this Section.

Proposed law requires the secretary of the Dept. of Public Safety and Corrections to issue
special prestige license plates to be known as the "Utility Lineman" license plate, provided
