Commends Meagan Crews upon winning the title of Miss Louisiana 2019. 1 A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION 2 To commend Meagan Crews upon winning the title of Miss Louisiana 2019. 3 WHEREAS, on June 22, 2019, at the W.L. Jack Howard Theatre in Monroe, Meagan 4 Crews competed, along with twenty-eight other aspiring young women from across the state, 5 to be crowned Miss Louisiana, and to graciously represent her state both nationally and 6 internationally during the coming year; and 7 WHEREAS, after the preliminaries and interviews of the Miss Louisiana 2019 8 Pageant, Miss Crews won the talent portion with her beautifully talented vocal rendition of 9 the song "I Will Always Love You"; and 10 WHEREAS, Miss Crews hails from Bossier City and is a marketing/advertising 11 design major at Louisiana State University in Shreveport where she has served as Student 12 Government Association (SGA) President; and 13 WHEREAS, she began competing in beauty pageants at the age of six, was crowned 14 Miss Louisiana Outstanding Teen in 2014, and was the reigning Miss Louisiana Watermelon 15 Festival upon her entry in the competition for this year's Miss Louisiana Pageant; and 16 WHEREAS, through the YWCA of Northwest Louisiana, Meagan Crews promotes 17 her social impact initiative as an ambassador of LEAD - Leadership Empowerment And 18 Development, an enrichment program that promotes the development of leadership and Page 1 of 2 SCR NO. 13 SLS 20RS-607 ORIGINAL 1 communication skills as a strong foundation for youth empowerment; and 2 WHEREAS, LEAD is a program for teen girls that focuses on topics that include 3 self-respect, healthy relationships, dating, cultural competency, and effective 4 communication; and Meagan is proud to serve as its spokesperson throughout the state of 5 Louisiana; and 6 WHEREAS, Meagan Crews will compete in the Miss America Pageant in September 7 of this year; and 8 WHEREAS, as an added benefit of the competitive process, Meagan Crews won a 9 $10,000 scholarship as Miss Louisiana and also won an additional $1,000 scholarship for 10 the talent round of the competition; and 11 WHEREAS, Miss Crews aspires to continue her education, to pursue a juris doctor 12 degree, and to secure a career as a legal professional; and 13 WHEREAS, Meagan Crews is to be congratulated for the tremendous honor she 14 imparts to her family, community, and state. 15 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby 16 commend Meagan Crews upon winning the title of Miss Louisiana 2019 and upon her many 17 accomplishments and talents. 18 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that best wishes are hereby extended to Meagan 19 Crews for continued success in her reign as Miss Louisiana and in all her future endeavors. 20 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to 21 Meagan Crews, Miss Louisiana.
