Expresses sincere and heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and fellowship of postal workers of Antonio Deshon Williams. 1 A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION 2 To express the sincere and heartfelt condolences of the Legislature of Louisiana upon the 3 family, friends, and fellowship of postal workers of Antonio Deshon Williams, a 4 person fulfilled by his service to his fellow man, family, and community. 5 WHEREAS, it is with great sorrow that the citizens of Louisiana have learned of the 6 sudden passing of postal worker Antonio Deshon Williams, a loving individual whose 7 kindness and compassion for others was a reflection of his Christian spirit; and 8 WHEREAS, he was born in Shreveport on June 28, 1966, and passed from this life 9 on Saturday, June 22, 2019, a week short of his fifty-third birthday; and 10 WHEREAS, he was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School in 1984; and 11 WHEREAS, Antonio was a man of generous spirit whose love of family and friends 12 was paramount in his life; he had great affection for his fellow letter carriers, for the 13 members of the South Side Rydaz Motorcycle Club, and for the NFL Dallas Cowboys 14 Football Team; and 15 WHEREAS, as a United States Postal Service mail carrier for seventeen years, he 16 was a familiar fixture on his route throughout the city's neighborhoods; Antonio had a 17 friendly smile and a kind word for all of his patrons; often he was the only daily contact for 18 the elderly and the disabled who looked forward to his warm "hello", a friendly knock at the Page 1 of 2 SCR NO. 14 SLS 20RS-608 ORIGINAL 1 door, and a wave of his hand as he passed by; and 2 WHEREAS, with Pastor Joe Williams officiating, a homecoming celebration was 3 held on Saturday, June 29th, at the Shreveport Municipal Auditorium that was attended by 4 many friends, family, postal employees, and local officials who paid their last respects as 5 they passed by the golden flag-draped casket; they bid farewell to their 6 beloved Antonio "D-Shot" Williams with heartfelt words and glorious song; and 7 WHEREAS, Antonio is survived by his loving wife, Ivy Shelby-Williams; their six 8 daughters: Unikea Johnson, Brittany Shelby, Crystal Shelby Douglas, Ashley Johnson, 9 Demetria Sumlin, and Erica Jackson; one son, Antonio Johnson; and thirteen grandchildren; 10 and 11 WHEREAS, upon his untimely death, the community of Shreveport-Bossier has lost 12 a unique individual who left an indelible mark upon the lives of all who knew him and 13 benefitted from his generosity of spirit; and 14 WHEREAS, although Antonio has been taken from our midst all too soon, yet he 15 will be remembered for his devotion to family, his friendly demeanor, his smile, his kindness 16 to others, his courage, and his steadfast dedication to his job and community. 17 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby 18 extend sincere and heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Antonio Deshon 19 Williams of Shreveport, Louisiana, upon his homegoing. 20 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED and noted that the life of Antonio Deshon Williams 21 was well spent in benevolent service to others, and at his passing, we pay tribute to the 22 remarkable legacy that shall live long in the hearts of those he touched with his goodness. 23 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to his 24 wife Ivy Shelby-Williams.
