COMMENDATIONS. Commends Damien Lewis on an outstanding 2019 season with the
Louisiana State University Fighting Tigers football team.
1 A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
2 To commend Damien Lewis on an outstanding 2019 season with the Louisiana State
3 University Fighting Tigers football team.
4 WHEREAS, Damien Lewis grew up in Canton, Mississippi, and is the son of Stacey
5 Lewis and Damien Dozier and the oldest of four boys; and
6 WHEREAS, since joining the Tigers as a junior college transfer, he played in
7 twenty-six consecutive games; and
8 WHEREAS, known as the heart and soul of the Louisiana State University (LSU)
9 offense, Damien started at right guard in twenty-seven successive games; and
10 WHEREAS, he was named First Team All-America and Second Team All-SEC; and
11 WHEREAS, Damien played eight hundred two snaps in 2019 with a team-best
12 thirty-two finishes and was a constant of the LSU offensive line that was named the Joe
13 Moore Award winner as the top unit in the nation; and
14 WHEREAS, he was the top lineman against Texas A&M with two finishes on
15 sixty-seven snaps, and finished with a team-high two knockdowns on forty-four snaps
16 against the University of Arkansas; and
17 WHEREAS, Damien is credited with a team-high five knockdowns in the win against
18 Ole Miss and led the offense to the most yards in a SEC game and second most in any game

1 in school history; and
2 WHEREAS, in the victory against Mississippi State University, he played all
3 sixty-one snaps and finished as the second-best lineman; and
4 WHEREAS, Damien graded out at ninety-three percent overall against the University
5 of Florida after not allowing the Gators one sack, and leading the Tigers to more than five
6 hundred yards; and
7 WHEREAS, he received the second-best overall grade against Utah State University,
8 matched the season opener with five knockdowns against the University of Texas, and
9 graded out as the highest rated lineman with five finishes on fifty-six snaps in the season
10 opener against Georgia Southern University; and
11 WHEREAS, Damien Lewis is a talented athlete who demonstrates impeccable
12 leadership and a commitment to excellence that is truly commendable; and
13 WHEREAS, it is fitting to herald the achievements of accomplished young men like
14 Damien Lewis, a model citizen who represents the best and brightest of the state and who
15 is deserving of the honors bestowed upon him as a member of the Louisiana State University
16 Fighting Tigers football team.
17 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
18 commend and congratulate Damien Lewis on an outstanding 2019 football season as right
19 guard for the Louisiana State University Fighting Tigers, does hereby record for posterity
20 the pride and honor that he brings to his family, friends, community, the state of Mississippi,
21 the state of Louisiana, and the United States of America, and does hereby extend to him best
22 wishes for continued success and happiness in all of his future endeavors.
23 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
24 Damien Lewis.
