SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 43

COMMENDATIONS.  Commends Grant Delpit on an outstanding 2019 football season
with the LSU Fighting Tigers.
1	A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
2 To commend Grant Delpit on an outstanding 2019 football season with the Louisiana State
3 University Fighting Tigers.
4 WHEREAS, Grant Delpit was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, and moved to
5 Houston, Texas, after his family was displaced due to Hurricane Katrina; and
6 WHEREAS, a safety on the gridiron, he attended St. Thomas High School for three
7 years before transferring to Lamar High School as a junior; and
8 WHEREAS, he transferred to IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, in his senior year
9 of high school, where he had forty-seven tackles and five interceptions, and committed to
10 Louisiana State University (LSU) to play college football; and
11 WHEREAS, as a true freshman at LSU in 2017, Grant played in all thirteen games
12 with ten starts, recording sixty tackles and one interception; and
13 WHEREAS, he returned to LSU as a starter in 2018 and was named Consensus
14 All-American and First-Team All-SEC; and
15 WHEREAS, in 2019, his junior season, Grant had thirty-eight solo tackles,
16 twenty-seven assist tackles, one forced fumble, and two interceptions, and was named the
17 recipient of the Jim Thorpe Award, an honor named in memory of multi-sport athlete
18 Jim Thorpe, and awarded to the top defensive back in college football; and

1 WHEREAS, following his junior season, Grant announced that he would forgo his
2 senior season at LSU and declared for the 2020 NFL Draft; and
3 WHEREAS, Grant's ability to chase down plays with reckless abandon is the mark
4 of a great safety and defensive player; and
5 WHEREAS, Grant Delpit is a talented athlete who demonstrates impeccable
6 leadership and a commitment to excellence that is truly commendable; and
7 WHEREAS, it is fitting to herald the achievements of Louisiana's accomplished
8 young men like Grant Delpit, a model citizen who represents the best and brightest of the
9 state and who is deserving of the honors bestowed upon him as a member of the Louisiana
10 State University Fighting Tigers football team.
11 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
12 commend and congratulate Grant Delpit on an outstanding 2019 football season as a safety
13 with the Louisiana State University Fighting Tigers, does hereby record for posterity the
14 pride and honor that he brings to his family, friends, community, the state of Louisiana, and
15 the United States of America, and does hereby extend to him best wishes for continued
16 success and happiness in all of his future endeavors.
17 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
18 Grant Delpit.
