SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 50

SPECIAL DAY/WEEK/MONTH. Designates April 2020 as Organ Donation Awareness
Month in Louisiana.
1 A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
2 To designate April 2020 as Organ Donor Awareness Month in Louisiana.
3 WHEREAS, it is appropriate to recognize April 2020 as Organ Donation Awareness
4 Month in Louisiana as organ and tissue donations are life-giving acts recognized worldwide
5 as expressions of compassion to those in need; and
6 WHEREAS, more than 112,000 people across the country are waiting on a
7 life-saving organ transplant with more than 2,000 of those individuals residing in the state
8 of Louisiana; and
9 WHEREAS, more than 85 patients can benefit from the gifts of one donor hero and
10 donated organs such as a heart, lungs, liver, kidneys, pancreas, and small intestine can
11 potentially save eight lives; and
12 WHEREAS, donated corneas can restore sight to two recipients and recovered tissues
13 can enhance more than 75 lives primarily through reconstructive surgeries; and
14 WHEREAS, the listing names in the Louisiana Donor Registry provides hope for
15 those whose life or productivity depends on a transplant; and
16 WHEREAS, more than 2.5 million Louisiana residents have already registered as an
17 organ donor at the Office of Motor Vehicles when applying for or renewing a driver's license
18 and many others sign up online; and

1 WHEREAS, the spirit of giving and the decision to donate are not restricted by age
2 or medical condition; and
3 WHEREAS, the Louisiana Organ Procurement Agency and Donate Life Louisiana
4 work together with volunteers, the private-sector, non-profits, and media partners to promote
5 awareness and inform the public of the life-saving potential of organ, eye and tissue
6 donation.
7 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
8 designate April 2020 as Organ Donor Awareness Month in Louisiana.
9 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
10 Louisiana Organ Procurement Agency and Donate Life Louisiana.
