Requests the State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education to review the necessity to suspend all statewide assessments for the 2020-21 school year. 1 A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION 2 To urge and request the State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education to review the 3 necessity to suspend all statewide assessments for the 2020-2021 school year, due 4 to the impact of the school closures caused by COVID-19. 5 WHEREAS, the governor declared a public health emergency on March 11, 2020, 6 as a result of COVID-19; and 7 WHEREAS, on March 13, 2020, the governor announced the closure of all school 8 buildings; and 9 WHEREAS, all school buildings have remained closed since that time; and 10 WHEREAS, it is still unclear whether schools will be able to reopen in the fall as 11 scheduled; and 12 WHEREAS, student anxiety over the virus and unrest caused by school closures will 13 likely negatively impact student learning and thus future test performance; and 14 WHEREAS, results from annual mandated statewide assessments have a great 15 impact on students, teachers, schools, and districts; and 16 WHEREAS, the health of Louisiana's students, teachers, and other school employees, 17 and not test results, should be of the utmost concern. 18 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby Page 1 of 2 SCR NO. 72 SLS 20RS-1707 ORIGINAL 1 urge and request the State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education to review the 2 necessity to suspend all statewide assessments for the 2020-2021 school year, due to the 3 impact of the school closures caused by COVID-19. 4 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the 5 president of the State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education.
