SLS 20RS-736 ORIGINAL 2020 Regular Session SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 20 BY SENATOR WARD COMMENDATIONS. Commends Warren "T-Notchie" Taylor for his distinguished public service as Parish Councilman for District 1 on the Iberville Parish Council. 1 A RESOLUTION 2 To commend Warren "T-Notchie" Taylor for twenty-three years of distinguished public 3 service as Parish Councilman for District 1 on the Iberville Parish Council. 4 WHEREAS, in 2019, Warren "T-Notchie" Taylor decided not to seek re-election as 5 Parish Councilman for District 1 on the Iberville Parish Council, which district includes 6 White Castle, the Louisiana Hwy. 405 area, and parts of Dorseyville; and 7 WHEREAS, Mr. Taylor is a native of Iberville Parish and grew up near the Cora 8 Texas Sugar Mill in White Castle, Louisiana; and 9 WHEREAS, Mr. Taylor graduated from White Castle High School in 1972 where 10 he played center on the football team and guard on the basketball team; and 11 WHEREAS, prior to becoming a councilman, Mr. Taylor was a rhythm and blues 12 star and one of the lead singers in the Louisiana Connection band that toured the country and 13 released its 1982 album "Louisiana Connection" and the hit song "Promise Me" under MCA 14 Records; and 15 WHEREAS, prior to his retirement in April 2019, Mr. Taylor also worked for thirty 16 plus years for the Iberville Parish School Board at White Castle High School, his alma 17 mater, as head custodian; and 18 WHEREAS, Mr. Taylor served on the parish council for twenty-three years and Page 1 of 3 SR NO. 20 SLS 20RS-736 ORIGINAL 1 served as vice chairman of the council for twelve years; and 2 WHEREAS, Mr. Taylor served on the following committees on the Iberville Parish 3 Council: Building and Grounds, Finance, Personnel , CSBG Advisory, Drainage and Roads, 4 4-H Advisory, Parks and Recreation Advisory, and the Iberville Parish Early Childhood 5 Program Community Partner; and 6 WHEREAS, during his years of service as councilman, many great things were 7 accomplished including parish wide upgrades of the fire districts, a new Iberville Parish 8 Health Unit, the Iberville-Ochsner Medical Complex, improved garbage and trash pickup, 9 updated personnel policies and procedures in finance, renovation of the Iberville Parish 10 Maintenance Facility, improvement and relocation of the Iberville Parish 911 11 Communication Center and Emergency Center, improvement of the Iberville Parish Gas 12 Facility, the Iberville Veteran Memorial, various road and bridge projects, upgrades to the 13 air-conditioning and roof at the Iberville Courthouse and Parish Jail, assistance with 14 employment for youth and adults, updated ordinances, grant funding to assist in renovating 15 the White Castle Community Center, relocation of the White Castle voting precinct, 16 upgrades to parks, improvement in employees' benefits, implementation of recycling 17 programs at schools, installation of a parish wide siren system, upgrades to energy assistance 18 and commodities, and a new Iberville Council on Aging Senior Center; and 19 WHEREAS, Mr. Taylor also served as a member of the Policy Jury Association of 20 Louisiana, the Police Jury Black Caucus of Louisiana, the Iberville Chamber of Commerce, 21 and the National Education Association; and 22 WHEREAS, Mr. Taylor is especially thankful for and blessed by the love and 23 support extended to him during his years of public service by his wife, Lois Richard Taylor, 24 and his children; daughters, LaTonja Butler and Shaurona Brown; and sons, Sheldon and 25 Javarius; and grateful for his five grandchildren, Kennedy, Garret, Kinsle, Shania, and 26 Sergio; and his spiritual advisor, Pastor Gregory L. Coates, of the St. John the Baptist 27 Church in Dorseyville, Louisiana. 28 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana 29 does hereby recognize and commend Warren "T-Notchie" Taylor for his twenty-three years 30 of distinguished public service as Parish Councilman for District 1 on the Iberville Page 2 of 3 SR NO. 20 SLS 20RS-736 ORIGINAL 1 Parish Council. 2 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to 3 Warren "T-Notchie" Taylor.
