Expresses condolences upon the death of Don Scoggins. 1 A RESOLUTION 2 To express the sincere condolences of the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana upon the 3 death of Don Austin Scoggins. 4 WHEREAS, it is with deep regret and profound sorrow that the members of the 5 Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana have learned of the passing of Don Austin Scoggins, 6 on March 27, 2020; and 7 WHEREAS, Don Austin Scoggins, the son of F.P. Scoggins Sr. and Tressie Keel 8 Hagan, was born on June 5, 1939, in Leesville, Louisiana; and 9 WHEREAS, he graduated from Leesville High School in 1957 and then from 10 Northwestern State University where he served as a Black Knight in the ROTC program; and 11 WHEREAS, Don married the absolute love of his life since junior high school, Linda 12 Elizabeth "Betsy" May, on January 26, 1962; and 13 WHEREAS, he served in the United States Army, taught junior high science at 14 Leesville, sold real estate for many years, and then owned Hernandez Farm Supply until his 15 retirement; and 16 WHEREAS, Don was a member of First Baptist Church in Leesville for over 17 sixty-five years and was also a faithful member of the Unity Sunday School class and 18 "morning coffee crew"; and Page 1 of 2 SR NO. 27 SLS 20RS-867 ORIGINAL 1 WHEREAS, he was a member of the Leesville Lions Club, where he was a past 2 president and rodeo chairman; he was a Master Mason, belonging to Leesville Lodge #240 3 F&AM; he was a 32nd Degree Mason of the Shreveport Scottish Rite Bodies; and he was 4 always quick to volunteer for any veteran service organization; and 5 WHEREAS, Don was instrumental in establishing local volunteer fire stations 6 throughout Vernon Parish; and 7 WHEREAS, he was preceded in death by his parents; brother, F. P. Scoggins Jr.; and 8 wife of fifty-four years, Betsy Scoggins; and 9 WHEREAS, Don is survived by his daughters, Susan Elizabeth Scoggins and Linda 10 "Dandy" Scoggins Beckermeyer and her husband Tony; four beloved grandchildren, 11 Elizabeth May Gautreaux Cyr and husband Timothy, Austin Clark Beckermeyer, Nathan 12 Don Gautreaux, and Collin Wayne Beckermeyer; three nephews; and one niece; and 13 WHEREAS, he was an extremely loving husband, father, and grandfather, was very 14 family oriented, and never missed an opportunity to grill steaks with all the trimmings, the 15 family favorite being gathering for "granddaddy's steaks"; and 16 WHEREAS, Don had a deep love for Leesville and his country and his memory will 17 live forever with all who had the opportunity to know him. 18 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana 19 does hereby express sincere condolences upon the death of Don Austin Scoggins. 20 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to 21 Susan Scoggins and Linda Beckermeyer.
