2020 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 33 BY SENATOR WOMACK A RESOLUTION To commend Mr. Sammy J. Franklin for sixty-five years in the newspaper business and the celebration of his 80th birthday this year. WHEREAS, Mr. Sammy J. Franklin, resident of LaSalle Parish, will celebrate his 80th birthday this year; and WHEREAS, during his many years of service and leadership in LaSalle Parish, Mr. Franklin has been engaged in the newspaper business for sixty-five years, including fifty-two years as publisher and editor of The Jena Times, Olla-Tullos-Urania Signal, which is the official journal of LaSalle Parish as well as the Town of Jena, the Town of Olla, the Town of Urania, and the Town of Tullos; and WHEREAS, The Jena Times also serves as the official journal for the LaSalle Parish Police Jury, the LaSalle Parish School Board, and all other district and parish bodies; and WHEREAS, through Mr. Franklin's leadership, The Jena Times, Olla-Tullos-Urania Signal has a reputation as being one of the most reliable and trustworthy newspapers in our state and country, having earned many awards each year from the Louisiana Press Association for its editorials, news coverage, photography, and advertising; and WHEREAS, Mr. Franklin, with his unwavering faith in God, dedication to conservative, fundamental morals and Christian values is considered one of the top leaders in LaSalle Parish and has been instrumental in promoting business and industry which has resulted in continued growth and prosperity in the parish while other parishes have experienced a decline. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend and extend its appreciation and gratitude to Mr. Sammy J. Franklin, Editor/Publisher of The Jena Times, Olla-Tullos-Urania Signal, for his many contributions to the people and citizens of LaSalle Parish over his sixty-five years in the newspaper business.
