SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 37

A RESOLUTION
To commend Rashad Lawrence, defensive lineman, on an outstanding career with the
Louisiana State University Fighting Tigers football team, culminating with a national
championship senior season.
WHEREAS, Rashad Lawrence, a national top twenty recruit from Monroe,
Louisiana, signed with the LSU Tigers, and in his freshman year played in nine games; and
WHEREAS, Lawrence was a team captain as a sophomore in 2017, missing time
with ankle injuries but starting ten games, including the final eight, registering 32 tackles,
3.5 for loss, and 1.5 sacks; and
WHEREAS, in his 2018 junior season, he started all thirteen games with 54 tackles,
10.5 for loss, 4.5 sacks, and three pass breakups, and finished the year being selected as the
Defensive Player of the Game in the Fiesta Bowl with four tackles for loss (two sacks) in the
Tigers' win over the University of Central Florida; and
WHEREAS, after missing spring drills in 2019 due to right knee surgery, as a senior
in 2019, he played in twelve games, including eleven starts in his senior season, missing time
due to an ankle injury, but still earned second-team All-SEC team honors after posting 28
tackles, six for loss, 2.5 sacks, and three pass breakups during the Tigers' national
championship campaign; and
WHEREAS, Rashad Lawrence leaves LSU after achieving an outstanding career,
starting thirty-four games with 120 tackles, 21.0 tackles for loss, and 6.5 sacks, as a
three-year team captain and starter of the defensive line, as a member of the SEC Academic
Honor Roll in 2018 and 2019, and as a graduate with a degree in Sports Administration in
December 2019; and
WHEREAS, he was drafted in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft by the
Arizona Cardinals; and
WHEREAS, Rashad Lawrence is a talented athlete who demonstrates impeccable
leadership and a commitment to excellence that is truly commendable; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting to herald the achievements of Louisiana's accomplished
young men like Rashad Lawrence, a model citizen who represents the best and brightest of
the state and who is deserving of the honors bestowed upon him as a member of the
Louisiana State University Fighting Tigers football team.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby commend and congratulate Rashad Lawrence on an outstanding football career
at LSU, culminating with a national championship senior season, and does hereby extend
to him best wishes for continued success and happiness in all of his future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
Rashad Lawrence.
