SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 42

SPECIAL DAY/WEEK/MONTH. Designates the week of May 17-23, 2020, as Emergency
Medical Services Week.
1 A RESOLUTION
2 To designate the week of May 17-23, 2020, as Emergency Medical Services Week.
3 WHEREAS, emergency medical services is a vital public service; and
4 WHEREAS, the members of emergency medical services teams are ready to provide
5 lifesaving care to those in need 24 hours a day, seven days a week; and
6 WHEREAS, access to quality emergency care dramatically improves the survival
7 and recovery rate of those who experience sudden illness or injury; and
8 WHEREAS, emergency medical services has grown to fill a gap by providing
9 important, out of hospital care, including preventative medicine, follow-up care, and access
10 to telemedicine; and
11 WHEREAS, the emergency medical services system consists of first responders,
12 emergency medical technicians, paramedics, emergency medical dispatchers, firefighters,
13 police officers, educators, administrators, pre-hospital nurses, emergency nurses, emergency
14 physicians, trained members of the public, and other out of hospital medical care providers;
15 and
16 WHEREAS, the members of emergency medical services teams, whether career or
17 volunteer, engage in thousands of hours of specialized training and continuing education to
18 enhance their lifesaving skills; and

1 WHEREAS, it is appropriate to recognize the value and the accomplishments of
2 emergency medical services providers by designating Emergency Medical Services Week.
3 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
4 hereby designates the week of May 17-23, 2020, as Emergency Medical Services Week.
5 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the citizens of Louisiana are hereby encouraged
6 to observe this week with appropriate programs, ceremonies, and activities.
