Creates the Coroner Safety Task Force to develop policy recommendations that seek to enhance the prevention and mitigation of harm against a coroner and behavioral health facility personnel. 1 A RESOLUTION 2 To create and provide for the Coroner Safety Task Force to develop recommendations that 3 seek to enhance the prevention and mitigation of harm against a coroner and 4 behavioral health facility personnel during an examination performed in furtherance 5 of the execution of a coroner's emergency certificate. 6 WHEREAS, it is essential for proper operation and function of a state behavioral 7 health system that coroners can evaluate and execute emergency certificates in order to 8 ensure that individuals are able to access appropriate behavioral health services; and 9 WHEREAS, examining and studying new methods and technologies to increase 10 safety while a coroner, personnel of the coroner's office, or the behavioral health facility is 11 conducting an examination in furtherance of determining whether to execute a coroner's 12 emergency certificate should continually be undertaken. 13 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana 14 hereby creates the Coroner Safety Task Force to develop policy recommendations that seek 15 to enhance the prevention and mitigation of harm against a coroner and behavioral health 16 facility personnel during any examination performed in furtherance of the execution of 17 coroner's emergency certificate. 18 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the task force shall be comprised of the Page 1 of 2 SR NO. 46 SLS 20RS-1308 ORIGINAL 1 following members: 2 (1) President of the Louisiana Coroner's Association, or the president's designee. 3 (2) The President of the Louisiana Hospital Association, or the president's designee. 4 (3) The coroner of Jefferson Parish, or the coroner's designee. 5 (4) One representative each from Seaside Behavioral Center, Perimeter Behavioral 6 Hospital of New Orleans, Oceans Behavioral Hospital of Greater New Orleans, and River 7 Oaks Hospital in Jefferson Parish. 8 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the task force may provide policy 9 recommendations to the Senate Committee on Health and Welfare by February 1, 2021. 10 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the 11 Louisiana Coroner's Association, the Louisiana Hospital Association, the Jefferson Parish 12 coroner, and the respective chief executive officers of Seaside Behavioral Center, Perimeter 13 Behavioral Hospital of New Orleans, Oceans Behavioral Hospital of Greater New Orleans, 14 and River Oaks Hospital.
