SLS 20RS-1588 ORIGINAL 2020 Regular Session SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 49 BY SENATOR BOUIE COMMENDATIONS. Commends Reverend Anthony Bozeman upon the celebration of the twentieth anniversary of his ordination. 1 A RESOLUTION 2 To commend Reverend Anthony M. Bozeman, SSJ, pastor of St. Raymond and St. Leo the 3 Great Parish in New Orleans, upon the celebration of the twentieth anniversary of his 4 ordination. 5 WHEREAS, the faith community of St. Raymond and St. Leo the Great in New 6 Orleans is celebrating the twentieth anniversary of the ordination of its beloved pastor, 7 Reverend Anthony M. Bozeman, SSJ; and 8 WHEREAS, Father Bozeman was raised in Philadelphia, began his formal education 9 at Our Mother of Sorrows, and graduated from West Philadelphia Catholic High School; and 10 WHEREAS, after graduating from high school, Father Bozeman pursued his 11 undergraduate studies at LaSalle University in Philadelphia and joined the military, serving 12 his country for sixteen years in the Air National Guard; and 13 WHEREAS, Father Bozeman entered St. Charles Borromeo Seminary in 14 Philadelphia, and he was ordained to the priesthood on May 20, 2000, serving as parochial 15 vicar at Our Lady of Grace and Our Lady of Hope parishes; and 16 WHEREAS, in June of 2005, the Archdiocese of Philadelphia released Father 17 Bozeman to discern a deeper answer to God's call by joining a religious community, and in 18 October of that year, he was assigned as parochial vicar of Our Mother of Mercy and Our Page 1 of 3 SR NO. 49 SLS 20RS-1588 ORIGINAL 1 Lady Star of the Sea parishes in Houston, Texas; and 2 WHEREAS, on August 1, 2006, the Josephites assigned Father Bozeman as pastor 3 of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in New Orleans; and 4 WHEREAS, in October of 2006, Archbishop Alfred Hughes of New Orleans 5 appointed Father Bozeman as chaplain of Xavier Preparatory School, and on July 12, 2008, 6 he was assigned as pastor of St. Raymond and St. Leo the Great Parish; and 7 WHEREAS, over the past twelve years the St. Raymond and St. Leo the Great 8 community has been guided with outstanding service, vision, and commitment by Father 9 Bozeman, his vision of taking "Jesus to the Streets" became a reality at the first Annual Old 10 Fashioned Tent Revival "It's A Love Thing" held in 2011 at Hunter's Field and in later years 11 at Lemann Playground; and 12 WHEREAS, attendance exceeded three hundred all four nights of the revival and 13 included individuals from all denominations and surrounding communities providing food 14 for the homeless, free health screenings and voter registration; and 15 WHEREAS, in accordance with the National Black Catholic Congress Pastoral Plan, 16 Father Bozeman established the Evangelization and Social Justice ministries which 17 expanded outreach to feed the homeless and widen the voter registration program; and 18 WHEREAS, in his capacity as Past President and Vice President of the National 19 Black Catholic Caucus, Father Bozeman hosted the Fiftieth Anniversary Mass and Reception 20 of the organization in 2017 which brought together bishops, priests, deacons, and other 21 religious leaders from all areas of the United States; and 22 WHEREAS, Father Bozeman was instrumental in creating an endowed scholarship 23 for the Institute of Black Catholic Studies housed at Xavier University of Louisiana on 24 behalf of St. Raymond and St. Leo the Great Roman Catholic Church, an endowment which 25 will live to perpetuity. 26 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana 27 does hereby commend Reverend Anthony M. Bozeman, SSJ, pastor of St. Raymond and St. 28 Leo the Great Parish in New Orleans, upon the twentieth anniversary of his ordination and 29 does hereby extend to him and the congregation best wishes for richest blessings in their 30 future endeavors.
