Designates April 7, 2020, as FFA Day at the Louisiana State Capitol and commends the state officers of the Louisiana FFA Association. 1 A RESOLUTION 2 To designate April 7, 2020, as FFA Day at the Louisiana State Capitol and to commend the 3 state officers of the Louisiana FFA Association. 4 WHEREAS, in 1917, Congress passed the Smith-Hughes National Vocational 5 Education Act to appropriate federal dollars to states for the purpose of finding teachers, 6 supervisors, and directors of agricultural subjects as well as trade, home economics, and 7 industrial subjects in high schools across the United States and has funded programs created 8 pursuant to the Act since; and 9 WHEREAS, in the early 1920s, student interest generated by the addition of these 10 classes prompted the first state organization of future farmers, and in 1928, thirty-three 11 students from eighteen states convened to form Future Farmers of America (FFA), known 12 since 1988 as the National FFA Organization; and 13 WHEREAS, the goal of FFA, as conceptualized in its mission statement, is to make 14 a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier 15 leadership, personal growth, and career success through agricultural education; and 16 WHEREAS, the FFA motto, "Learning to Do, Doing to Learn, Earning to Live, 17 Living to Serve", provides members words to live by as they experience the opportunities 18 of the organization; and Page 1 of 2 SR NO. 7 SLS 20RS-151 ORIGINAL 1 WHEREAS, the national FFA organization consists of more than seven hundred 2 thousand members in the United States, Puerto Rico, and the United States Virgin Islands; 3 and 4 WHEREAS, the Louisiana membership of the FFA organization continues to be 5 strongly represented by agricultural students in two hundred four chapters in fifty-one 6 parishes throughout the state with over eleven thousand members; and 7 WHEREAS, the members of the Louisiana Senate recognize the importance of 8 agriculture to the economy of this state, as well as the importance of the education and 9 training students receive through agricultural education programs that develop competent 10 and assertive agricultural leadership; and 11 WHEREAS, the role that FFA and the training and education afforded by funding 12 through the Smith-Hughes Act play in maintaining Louisiana's agricultural sector as an 13 essential economic driver in the state are recognized and supported by the members of the 14 Louisiana Senate. 15 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana 16 does hereby designate April 7, 2020, as FFA Day at the Louisiana State Capitol. 17 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana also 18 recognizes and commends the 2019-2020 state FFA officers, as follows: Jadyn' Durr, 19 president; Dekota McGee, secretary; Amber Bridges, vice president; Salem Johnson, vice 20 president; Trevor Touchet, vice president; Tristan Foret, vice president; Victoria Higdon, 21 treasurer; Zachary Mayfield, reporter; Lindsey Detraz, sentinel; and Matthew Phillips, 22 parliamentarian. 23 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to 24 Jadyn' Durr, state president of the Louisiana FFA Association.
