Expresses condolences on the passing of Roy Edward Brown. 1 A RESOLUTION 2 To express the sincere and heartfelt condolences of the Senate of the Legislature of 3 Louisiana upon the passing of Roy Edward Brown. 4 WHEREAS, Roy Brown was born December 28, 1940, to the late Lucien Brown Jr. 5 and Rosa Bell Brown from Broussard, Louisiana; and 6 WHEREAS, he graduated from Paul Breaux High School in Lafayette and Southern 7 University in Baton Rouge where he played college football, received a Bachelor of Arts, 8 and master's degree in social studies; and 9 WHEREAS, Roy Brown was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and served 10 on the church parish pastoral council in which his strong sense of what was right and wrong 11 guided him; and 12 WHEREAS, he was the recipient of the Martin Luther King Jr. Award in 2006; and 13 WHEREAS, Roy Brown departed this life on Sunday, February 23, 2020, at the age 14 of eighty, during which time he claimed his "merited crown from the Lord"; and 15 WHEREAS, Roy Brown leaves to cherish his memories his deeply devoted wife, 16 Mary Ann Brown of Broussard; a brother, Louis Brown (Frankie) of Sunset; a sister, 17 Albertha M. Matthews of Baton Rouge; one nephew, one niece, two great-nephews, five 18 great-nieces, and a host of relative and friends; and Page 1 of 2 SR NO. 8 SLS 20RS-660 ORIGINAL 1 WHEREAS, he was preceded in death by his parents, Lucien and Rosa Brown, a 2 sister Rosa Mae Johnson, one nephew, and one niece; and 3 WHEREAS, Roy Brown did not want his loved ones to worry about his home going 4 because his favorite scripture, 2 Timothy 4:7-8, says, "I have fought a good fight, I have 5 finished the race, I have kept the faith. From now on a merited crown awaits me. On that 6 day, the Lord, a just judge that he is, awaits me". 7 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana 8 does hereby express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the passing of a truly godly man, 9 Roy Edward Brown. 10 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to his 11 wife Mary Ann Brown of Broussard, Louisiana.
