ENROLLED 2021 Regular Session HOUSE BILL NO. 214 BY REPRESENTATIVE CORMIER AND SENATORS CARTER AND CONNI CK 1 AN ACT 2 To amend and reenact R.S. 18:54, relative to registrars of voters; to provide for training of 3 new registrars of voters; to provide for an effective date; and to provide for related 4 matters. 5 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana: 6 Section 1. R.S. 18:54 is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows: 7 ยง54. Qualification; date; duplicate oath; bond; approval of bond; orientation and 8 training 9 A. Within thirty days after the date of his commission, each registrar shall 10 qualify for office by subscribing to the oath of office prescribed by the constitution. 11 The oath shall be filed with the clerk of court, and a duplicate original or a certified 12 copy thereof shall be filed with the secretary of state. In a parish containing a 13 municipality with a population of three hundred thousand or more, the oath shall be 14 filed with the clerk of the civil district court. Each registrar also shall file with the 15 secretary of state a bond, in favor of the governor and with security, for the faithful 16 performance of the duties required of him and for the payment of such damages as 17 may be sustained by his failure to discharge his duties. The sureties on the bond 18 shall be with a company authorized to do business in Louisiana, and in each parish 19 the bond shall be in the amount of five thousand dollars. 20 B. Each registrar appointed on or after January 1, 2022, shall complete 21 orientation and training prepared by the secretary of state in conjunction with the Page 1 of 2 CODING: Words in struck through type are deletions from existing law; words underscored are additions. This Act shall become effective on January 1, 2022.
