SSHB352 3391 3951 HOUSE SUMMARY OF SENATE AMENDMENTS HB 352 2021 Regular Session Hodges CURRICULA: Provides relative to content standards for social studies in public schools Synopsis of Senate Amendments 1.Delete proposed law relative to specific content of required instruction on American history and civics in public schools in grades K-12. 2.Require the State Bd. of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE) to incorporate certain topics into social studies content standards. 3.Require BESE to publish notices of hearings regarding the development of social studies standards in the official journal of every parish. Digest of Bill as Finally Passed by Senate Proposed law requires the State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE) to incorporate standards related to the following topics into the state content standards for social studies: (1)The U.S. Constitution. (2)The Bill of Rights. (3)Civics. (4)The Holocaust. (5)African American history. Proposed law requires BESE to publish a notice of any hearing held regarding the development of social studies standards pursuant to proposed law in the official journal of each parish in the state.
