RÉSUMÉ DIGEST ACT 236 (HB 422) 2021 Regular Session Emerson Existing law provides for the Reentry Advisory Council established within the Dept. of Public Safety and Corrections to serve as an advisory body to the secretary of the department and the legislature with respect to the administration of the inmate rehabilitation and workforce development program. Prior law required that the council be comprised of 22 members, 12 of whom were appointed by the governor from a list of persons submitted by a specific entity. Existing law provides that appointed members of the council shall serve for four-year terms. New law adds a member to the council appointed by the governor from a list of three persons nominated by the Council on the Children of Incarcerated Parents and Caregivers. Existing law provides that the council shall meet at least quarterly and may meet upon the call of the chairman or any three members. New law specifies that any appointed member who is absent for two meetings out of four consecutive meetings of the council may be disqualified and removed from the council membership. New law requires the council to notify the nominating entity that the person has been removed from the council membership pursuant to new law and request that the entity provide a list of three nominees to the governor to fill the vacancy. New law further provides that the former member shall not be eligible for reappointment until expiration of the balance of the vacated term. Effective August 1, 2021. (Adds R.S. 15:1199.4(O))
