MEDICAID:  Provides relative to extension of medicaid coverage for an individual
experiencing postpartum
1	AN ACT
2To enact R.S. 46:447.4, relative to the medical assistance program of this state known as
3 Medicaid; to provide for Medicaid eligibility for low-income pregnant individuals;
4 to provide for postpartum coverage; to provide for approval by the Centers for
5 Medicare and Medicaid Services; to require administrative rulemaking; and to
6 provide for related matters.
7Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
8 Section 1. R.S. 46:447.4 is hereby enacted to read as follows: 
9 ยง447.4. Postpartum care; Medicaid eligibility
10	A. Upon approval by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the
11 Louisiana Department of Health shall provide postpartum medicaid coverage for one
12 year after the pregnancy ends for eligible pregnant individuals who qualify under the
13 state's Medicaid plan.
14	B. The Louisiana Department of Health shall promulgate all such rules in
15 accordance with the Administrative Procedure Act as are necessary to implement the
16 provisions of this Section.

Abstract:  Provides relative to the extension of medicaid coverage for individuals
experiencing postpartum. 
Proposed law provides that upon approval by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid
Services (CMS), the La. Dept. of Health (LDH) shall provide postpartum medicaid coverage
to eligible pregnant individuals who qualify under the state's Medicaid plan, 1 year after the
end of their pregnancy.
Proposed law provides that LDH shall promulgate all such rules in accordance with present
law as are necessary to implement the provisions of proposed law.
